“Journey with Minerals” exhibition at L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts in Hong Kong

From July 20th to October 31st, 2024, L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific, School of Jewelry Arts presents “Journey with Minerals”, an exhibition in partnership with the renowned Mineralogy Museum Mines Paris - PSL. This captivating showcase delves into the fascinating world of minerals and reveals their most intimate structure and secretory properties. Featuring near 40 pieces, the curatorial route is divided into five thematic journeys leading the public through Matter, Jewelry, Technology, Arts, and Space.

Humankind could not have built empires and civilizations without understanding, evaluating, and extracting those minerals. Despite their transformation into industrial processes, they retain poetic qualities such as colourful layering, vibrancy, glittering surfaces and reflective motifs. As natural pieces of art provided by the planet Earth, they inspire collectors around the world, within and beyond the world of jewellery.

Technologies and industries have also absorbed the complex chemical constructions of minerals, as in the case of copper, while their beauty propelled some rocks to the esthetics of natural sculptures and architectural monuments. Finally, a more cosmic journey is allowing the public to see minerals as building blocks of our solar system, with a few examples of meteorites and rocks created during the impact of a meteorite falling on Earth.

Unveiling in Hong Kong for the first time, the exhibition offers a discovery of the incredible shapes and structures that makes minerals so fascinating, while learning about their role in human history and beyond. By presenting minerals and gemstones such as jade, ruby, aquamarine, tourmaline and garnet through the prism of nature, industry, technology and jewelry making, visitors are invited on an unprecedented exploration journey.
