More than a year and a half after the onset of the pandemic, access to vaccination is one of the most crucial factors in our daily lives. The same is true for Asia’s outlook, with the vaccination dividend expected to help chart the path forward. Amid increasing prospects of the COVID-19 pandemic becoming endemic, policymakers face the challenge of adopting an appropriate strategy that can balance between protecting economic growth and people. Adding to the challenge is a growing divergence in monetary policy between the US and emerging Asia that would have consequences for Asian currencies and capital markets. Robust global trade demand and China’s economic resiliency have led the region’s recovery but strained supply chains and China’s slowdown may sap the strength of the economic rebound in Asia.
