Dr Emilie Tran is Director of Transdisciplinary Undergraduate Proggrammes, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Prior to joining HKBU in 2016, she was at the University of Saint Joseph, where she used to be the Coordinator of the Master’s Programme in Government and International Studies, Head of the Department of Public Administration and International Relations, and Dean of the Faculty of Administration and Leadership. Driven by international and multidisciplinary collaborations, Dr Tran’s scholarship investigates contemporary China: China’s public and digital diplomacy, relations with the EU, France and the Maghrib, and transnational diaspora governance, trust and the smart city. She publishes in leading international journals, such as China Perspectives, Journal of Contemporary China, International Migration, Mediterranean Politics. She is now co-editing two handbooks with Brill Publishers, one on the overseas Chinese in Europe, and the other on the overseas Chinese in the Middle East and Africa. Dr Tran won HKBU’s highest accolade, the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching. In recognition of her 20 years of remarkable service to education, research and community service, the French Republic bestowed Dr Tran a “Knighthood”[Chevalier] of L’Ordre des Palmes Academiques, a national merit order that honours distinguished academics. Since 2016, she is a Conseillère des Français de l'étranger, representing the French living in Hong Kong and Macao SARs.
