Bordeaux takes its turn to host the world’s premier international wine and spirits showcase, Vinexpo, from June 18-21 this year, with Spain in the spotlight as honoured nation as well as international traders and artisan producers prominent among the four-day show.
The international trade gathering which alternates bi-annually with Vinexpo Hong Kong offers a networking hub for industry insiders to boost sales and stimulate the market. The show is set to attract over 2,000 exhibitors from 40 countries and around 45,000 industry professionals from every corner of the globe.
The show has a wide international reach with a wealth and variety of exhibiting countries such as UK, Japan, China, Croatia, Slovakia, Russia, Georgia, Lebanon and Switzerland joining long-established old and new world producers like France, Spain, Italy, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina.
A Trade Show That Means Business
Exhibitors at Vinexpo Bordeaux 2015 and Vinexpo Hong Kong 2016 commended the "One to Wine Meetings", an initiative to be repeated at the Bordeaux show. This targeted and monitored service organizes business appointments on the stands between exhibitors and pre-registered visitors directly.
A new element for the brand this year is a large-scale "Hosted Buyers" programme aimed at bringing in key players from the e-commerce, travel retail, mass retail and hospitality sectors. Two hundred new international buyers are being invited to represent these constantly evolving distribution channels, with the opportunity to join the "One to Wine Meetings" and hold up to 6 private meetings a day with target businesses. Attractive pricing and flexible timeslots are also on offer, as Vinexpo seeks to encourage smaller wine-makers to get involved in the event.
WOW! – World of Organic Wines
For the first time, Vinexpo features ‘WOW!’ – World of Organic Wines – an area entirely dedicated to organic and biodynamic wines. The area will host 200 artisan wine-makers, the ‘WOW!’ restaurant – serving entirely organic - and a number of talks and round tables themed around organic viticulture.
Country of Honour: Spain
As a leading wine producer on the world stage, Spain is this year’s ‘Country of Honour’. Spanish exhibitors take center stage with regional stands showcasing the world's largest wine-growing area and third-biggest exporter. Spanish wines will be in the spotlight with an open tasting area, a talk about Spanish wine exports, and a stand run by the famous Guía Peñín guide, showcasing a selection of the country’s best wines.
Evenings are also Spanish in flavour. On Sunday 18 June the Cité du Vin opens its Belvedere for a one-off Spanish wine-tasting and on Monday 19 June Vinexpo teams up with the Wine Spectator for "A
Taste of Spain", a new gourmet food and wine event. This exclusive evening will serve up offerings from around a hundred prestigious Spanish bodegas to accompany the cuisine from Spain’s 10 most illustrious chefs, selected by culinary co-chairs Ferran Adrià and José Andrés.
Tastings and Talks at Vinexpo Academy
A programme of talks and tastings will bring together leading experts and rising stars in the sector. Highlights of this year’s programme include: a conference on the wine and spirits market post-Brexit, as well as the topic of e-commerce and digital, and a debate on global warming organized in partnership with the Wine Spectator.
For tastings - Riesling Day - on June 20 will showcase Riesling in partnership with the Institute of Masters of Wine. The blind tasting contest - The Vinexpo Challenge – will be led by Vinexpo CEO, Guillaume Deglise and the Best Sommelier of the World Jon Arvid Rosengren. The Italian Wine guide Gambero Rosso returns with a large-scale tasting session of Italian wines, whilst the Union des Grands Crus has scheduled its traditional tasting of Bordeaux classifications.
