The opening and maintenance of bank accounts in Hong Kong is an issue of central importance for the city’s positive business environment. In order to improve the facility of access to banking services in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has recently launched some new initiatives aimed at alleviating a range of difficulties faced by many entrepreneurs and SMEs.
This includes the setting up of a dedicated webpage and email address to provide detailed information about bank account maintenance and opening as well as to collect comments and feedback. The HKMA webpage acts as a resource for existing and prospective account holders where you can find out about various procedures, documentation, information requirements and contact details of banks.
A comprehensive list of banks in Hong Kong with their associated key information regarding personal and business accounts can be found here.
You’re invited to send any enquiries or comments to the HKMA’s new dedicated email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
For the past few months, the French Chamber has been in close dialogue with the HKMA to further improve procedures, and is encouraged by these new initiatives. Hong Kong must maintain its competitiveness and attractiveness as a business destination; the opening and maintenance of bank accounts remains a vital issue.
